Focusing on the Face of God

How many of you started off doing well walking out your faith and then found yourself somewhere you didn’t want to be, wondering “How did I get here?” We all have. The sooner you can quit beating yourself up, and focus on where you want to go, the sooner things will get better.

The truth is we end up where we are looking. A case in point: when you are driving near a cliff, you need to focus on the road in front of you– not at the cliff on your side. That will keep you from veering off the edge.

Gazing at the Face of God

So, in your Christian walk, where should you be looking? It is simple. Hebrews 12:2 (TPT) says:

We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.

As we fasten our gaze onto Jesus, we access His faith! We are setting our minds on heavenly things. Colossians 3:1-3 (AMPC) says

And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.

This will require a reset when your mind wanders off. That’s OK. Don’t beat yourself up. Just gently refocus. This gets easier with practice and, in particular, gets easier when you when we realize that you are focusing on a feast!

Feasting on Christ

The Passion Translation of Colossians 3:2 puts it this way:

Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realmand fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.

You get to focus on your happy place! Jesus is your happy place – His face beams His intoxicating glory (2 Corinthians 4:6). When you gaze into His face, YOU get effortlessly transformed. Look at what scripture says in 2 Corinthians 3:18 (TPT):

Effortless Transformation

We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Talk about resetting your trajectory – YOU are being “reset”. You are being unveiled! Therefore, spend some time gazing at the Person of Love. Revel in Him, and let Him revel in you. You were BORN for this!

XO,

Catherine

  1. awesome word! He is the lifter up of our countenance and so if we are grieved or angry, sad etc. we have veiled Him. Yet it is our food for thought that what we eat we become.
