People are searching for something to fill and satisfy the nagging emptiness inside. Once people awaken to Christ in them, they experience some fullness, however, there still are areas that seem empty. Â
Emptiness a DelusionÂ
This often explains why we sin. We feel separate from God and look for fulfillment outside of Him. This thought is only a delusion since there is nothing outside of Christ, except in our minds. And He is the Source of all life-giving pleasure.Â
Indeed, Colossians 1:21-22 (NIV) says:
21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—
Notice, we are alienated from God and are enemies only in our minds! Humanity has already been reconciled to God through our union with Christ. Holy Spirit points humanity to Christ and Who Father really is, in order to reconcile humanity back to God. Emptiness comes from the lie that we are separated from God. Sin is empty, satisfying only for a season, then leaving people smaller and emptier than they were before. That is why God hates sin.  Â
The True GospelÂ
But there is good news. The Gospel says Christ became human while engaging in a love relationship with His Father (John 10:30). Our old nature was crucified with Him and we were raised with Him (Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:5-14, 1 Peter 1:3). We are now co-seated in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 2:5 – 6). This is why we partake of His fullness: John 1:16 (TPT) says:
16 And now out of his fullness we are fulfilled!
And from him we receive grace heaped upon more grace!Â
Another translation of this verse explains that we receive grace heaped upon more grace, one gift after another.Â
Experiencing Overflowing Fullness Â
Even the words of Christ are pregnant and full! John 6:63 (NIV) says:
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.Â
Christ’s mission statement in John 10:10 (TPT) is one of overflowing abundance:Â
10 A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!Â
Oh, let’s savor that for a bit!!! Christ came to:
– Â Â Â Give us everything in abundance
– Â Â Â Give more than you expect
– Â Â Â Give life in its fullness
– Â Â Â Give until you overflowÂ
Where is emptiness here? Where is lack? Where is desolation and bankruptcy? Before Jesus went to the cross, He prayed to His Father in John 17:13 (TPT):
13 “But now I am returning to you so Father,
I pray that they will experience
and enter into my joyous delight in you
so that it is fulfilled in them and overflows.
The fulfillment of Christ’s prayer is tangible and it overflows joyous delight!
Our destiny is to experience the fullness of what it means to know Christ, with full spiritual maturity, fully developed in the abundance of Christ. This type of fullness is inevitable, but for now shored up with the necessity of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 13:8-12) and the five-fold ministry. Ephesians 4:11-13 (TPT) says:Â
11 And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers. 12 And their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry, and as they do this they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ. 13 These grace ministries will function until we all attain oneness in the faith, until we all experience the fullness of what it means to know the Son of God, and finally we become one perfect man with the full dimensions of spiritual maturity and fully developed in the abundance of Christ.
We Are Now Completely FilledÂ
The truth is, right now we are completely filled with Christ’s fullness overflowing in us (Colossians 2:9 – 10, TPT):Â
9 For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe!Â
Holy Spirit is awakening us to this truth. This is why Paul prayed that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened so we would know the hope we are called to, the glory of the riches inside us and as us, as well as God’s might power in us (Ephesians 1:17- 19). We can trust the Helper to help us!
You are not empty. You lack nothing. When you are in Christ, you get to share in HIS fullness! You have complete access to everything He has!
