God has eternally existed with no beginning or end. Before time, God, the Father, Jesus the Son and Holy Spirit have always existed, submitting to one another in love. The love of the Trinity could not be contained, so Love exploded a race of children made in Their image and likeness.
Genesis 1:26 – 27 (AMPC) says:
26 God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.
27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
God Created out of Love, Not Need
This passage shows God as three Persons in one, and man as one person in 2 (male and female), made in His image and likeness. Because God is complete in Himself, He did not need humankind to complete or serve Him. God created children out of His passion. God’s heart is to love and out of that love, serve humankind – because Love serves. Love doesn’t demand, Love gives.
I love John 3:16-17 in the Amplified Bible, Classic version:
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.
God Serves You
Isn’t that beautiful?! You, me, and the entire world are dearly prized. God was unwilling to do without us! He wanted us safe and sound! To underscore this idea of Love giving and serving rather than demanding service, meditate upon 1 Corinthians 13:5 (AMPC) which says:
5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
Papa/Jesus/Holy Spirit are ALL about One Another and about their kids!
So how does the Father/Son/Spirit, the Person of Love operate? John 13:3 – 5 (TPT) gives us more insight in Jesus right before He went to the cross.
3 Now Jesus was fully aware that the Father had placed all things under his control, for he had come from God and was about to go back to be with him. 4 So he got up from the meal and took off his outer robe, and took a towel and wrapped it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ dirty feet and dry them with his towel.
This is significant because Hebrews 1:3 explains that Jesus is the express image of Father God. In this Scripture, we find Jesus serving humanity, which is a representation of the Father serving humanity.
How to Let God Serve You
Love serves His Children! In fact, He admonishes us to receive it as a necessity. Look at how Jesus responded when Peter drew back (John 13:8):
8 Peter looked at Jesus and said, “You’ll never wash my dirty feet—never!”
“But Peter, if you don’t allow me to wash your feet,” Jesus responded, “then you will not be able to share life with me.”
We are to let God, Himself, wash our feet! Remember Jesus, the dazzling radiance of God’s splendor and the exact expression of Father God (Hebrews 1:3), did not come to be served, but to serve. Mark 10:45 (TPT) says:
45 For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give his life as the ransom price in exchange for the salvation of many.”
Matthew 20:28 (TPT) reiterates:
28 For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give his life in exchange for the salvation of many.”
Luke 12:37 (TPT) is rarely discussed, but look what it says:
37 What great joy is ahead for the awakened ones who are waiting for the Master’s return! He himself will become their servant and wait on them at his table as he passes by.
So what does God serving YOU look like? That depends on what you need. He heals, enlightens, supplies, strengthens, comforts, protects, nurtures, guides, brings wholeness, disciplines, gives favor…whatever is needed! He truly is our Source!
Paying Service Forward
Wow! The truth is that serving His kids is important to God! And God asks us to love one another by serving one another. John 13:14 – 16 says:
14–15 So if I’m your teacher and lord and have just washed your dirty feet, then you should follow the example that I’ve set for you and wash one another’s dirty feet. Now do for each other what I have just done for you. 16 I speak to you timeless truth: a servant is not superior to his master, and an apostle is never greater than the one who sent him.
In doing so we will live a fulfilling life (John 13:17):
17 So now put into practice what I have done for you, and you will experience a life of happiness enriched with untold blessings!”
This is all about love – our new commandment (John 13:43):
34 “So I give you now a new commandment: Love each other just as much as I have loved you. 35 For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you’re my true followers.”
God is not asking us to pay Him back per se – this is not possible. God is asking us to bless Him by paying it forward (Matthew 25:40, TPT):
40 “And the King will answer them, ‘Don’t you know? When you cared for one of the least important of these my little ones, my true brothers and sisters, you demonstrated love for me.’
Truly – we cannot love without being loved first. It’s all about love (1 John 4:19, TPT):
19 Our love for others is our grateful response to the love God first demonstrated to us.
So, letting God love and serve us is our place of humility. It is imperative!
Help to Receive God’s Love
What comes up inside when you think of God serving you? Whatever makes you draw back needs ministry. Ask the Lord what lie you are believing that makes you want to draw back. When the lie is revealed, ask the Lord what He wants to minister to in that place in your heart. And let Him do so. It is His heart to heal your heart. If more lies come up, let Him minister to those areas as well. If you want more help, you will want to grab my “Marked by Love’ Book. You can find it by clicking here.
Let me know what He reveals! God wants you reveling and secure in the truth that you are marked by Love!
XO,
Catherine

I am glad to help – let me know what doesn’t make sense.
Thanks so much, Rob, for your insight and encouragement – blessings to you and yours!
It’s interesting for me when I hear Peter say to Jesus, “You will never wash my dirty feet.” Jesus says, “If you do not allow me to wash your feet, then you will not be able to share life with me.” Yes, we are to let God wash our feet. From my viewpoint, unless we allow God to minister to us especially in healing areas where we have been wounded, we will not be able to minister to others until we ourselves have been ministered to. Peter had to experience healing before he could minister healing to others. When we receive service from Jesus ourselves then we can give away what we have received. Yes, love gives and serves, after receiving it. So glad Peter allowed Jesus to wash his feet so that he could illustrate for us how to let Jesus wash our feet. Thanks for your encouragement in serving.
