Mirror Mirror
We all were created for significance. And hence, it is a godly thing to long for. But instead of resting in the significance found in God’s unconditional love, the world grapples for it. The Church, unfortunately, also grapples for it (while often pretending it doesn’t). Either way, the fact that there is grappling, means we have started from a faulty premise. We were never meant to toil or compete for significance.
Mirror, mirror on the wall – who’s the fairest of them all?
This is a trick question. And it’s a snare.
The answer is Jesus! And the answer is EVERYONE and NO ONE.
IT STARTS BY BEING SECURE IN GOD’S LOVE
The truth is that everyone was created in the image and likeness of God – of Love, Himself. Each one bears His mark. Each one has a mandate to release the glory placed inside them by Love Himself. The challenge is to operate from the place of being so loved and secure in that love, that others’ manifestation of significance is not a threat, consciously or subconsciously. Instead, we need to begin seeing others through God’s eyes.
We were never meant to tear one another down. We were never created to operate in meanness. We were meant to operate in Love. And Love always believes the best of every person. Love always serves the best interest of people.
It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
– 1 Corinthians 13:5-7 (Amplified Classic Version)
STOP COMPARING AND START CELEBRATING
We are interconnected because we were all made in Love, by Love, and for Love. When blessings manifest for one of us, they manifest for all of us. We serve a limitless God, who made everything available that we would ever need to fulfill the amazing individual plans He has for us.
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), [a]recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].
– Ephesians 2:10 (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)
We are all on the same team. When one of us wins, we all win. Let’s settle down and grow in our confidence in God; in the love of the One who loved us and gave Himself up for us. Let’s stay in that place of security in Christ until we can authentically be thrilled for the manifestation of God’s goodness in our brothers’ and sisters’ lives, even if they are very different from us and we are still waiting for our manifestation. We are our Father’s children!
