Pursued By Love: 3 Truths About the God Who Adores You

You Were Made to be Pursued by Love: The Ache for Love That Won’t Let Go

Beloved, can we be honest? Most of us at some point have asked the quiet, aching question: Am I really lovable? Not in theory. Not in a churchy “God loves the world” way. But in the deepest, messiest places of me—the parts I’d rather cover up, the wounds that whisper I’m not enough, or maybe too much.

I used to know all the right words and sing all the right songs. But when the room grew quiet, when it was just me and my unfiltered thoughts, I often felt a gap—a hollow ache where Love was supposed to settle.

If you’ve felt that too, let me encourage you: it’s not because you’re faithless. It’s because you’ve been messed with by religion or simply wounded (oftentimes both). And you may not have fully encountered the God Who is Love—not just the God Who talks about love, or the God Who commands love, but the God Who relentlessly pursues YOU in Love.

God, as the Person of Love has already set His life-giving sights on you. You don’t have to earn it (and you can’t earn it). You don’t even have to invite it. You only need to recognize it’s always been there. And when you finally let yourself be caught – everything changes!

Let me share three truths I’ve discovered about what it means to be pursued by Love.

1. Love Pursues — Even When We Hide

From the very beginning, Love has been moving toward us. Think of Adam and Eve in the garden. When they hid, God didn’t storm in with judgment. He came walking softly, asking: “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9).

Not because He didn’t know where they were—but because they didn’t.

That’s the nature of Love: He always initiates, always seeks, always draws near—even in our shame, rebellion, or failure.

In Marked by Love, I wrote: “Love is not intimidated by your mess. [Love] is not shocked by your brokenness. [Love] has already seen and covered it. Love doesn’t flinch; Love draws near.”

And yet so many of us are still hiding. Behind busyness. Behind ministry. Behind smiles that don’t quite reach our eyes. We’ve mistaken God’s holiness for harshness and forgotten His very first move has always been to come close.

So let me tell you: God is not waiting for you to get it together. He’s already moving toward your heart.

Love pursues. And if you’re running, you’re actually running straight into His arms. Isn’t that awesome?!

Reflection: What part of you feels too messy to bring before God? Can you imagine Him seeking you there—not to expose you, but to embrace and heal you?

2. Love Heals — By Seeing Us Fully

One of the biggest lies we swallow is this: If people really saw me, they wouldn’t love me. And so we hide behind perfectionism, productivity, or even spiritual performance.

But here’s the truth: Love can’t heal what we hide. He heals what we allow to be revealed. Not to everyone—but to the One Who already sees and Who knows the beauty of who we truly are.

To be marked by Love is to be fully known and fully chosen. There is no part of you that makes Him hesitate.

Think of Jesus with the woman at the well (John 4). He didn’t gloss over her story. He saw it all. And then He offered Himself: Living Water. He saw her—not just her mistakes, but her worth.

Or Zacchaeus (Luke 19). Society labeled him a cheat. Jesus called him a son.

Beloved, breakthrough rarely comes from fixing yourself. It comes from letting yourself be seen—raw, unedited, and real.

And when Love looks at you, it’s not with disappointment. It’s with delight. You’re His beloved son/daughter! You will never see disgust in His eyes—only compassion!

Reflection: What would shift if you really believed the parts you’re most ashamed of are already known—and still completely loved?

3. Love Transforms — By Revealing Who We Really Are

Here’s a stunning truth: you’re not a problem to fix. You’re a masterpiece waking up.

Yes, we all need healing. But your true identity is not “broken.” It’s “beloved.”

Love doesn’t transform us by shaming us into better behavior. He transforms us by revealing who we already are—sons and daughters, crafted in the very image of Love Himself.

That’s the difference between behavior modification and true transformation. Rules may change behavior for a while. But only Love heals identity. And when you see yourself through His eyes, it changes everything.

You were never designed to strive for worth. You were designed to rest in it.

Reflection: What would your life look like if you lived from the truth: I am already fully accepted, fully equipped, and fully beloved?

A Love That Refuses to Let Go

Precious one, this isn’t just theology. This is a Person.

Love Himself is pursuing you—not to demand more, but to give you more. More freedom. More healing. More joy. More intimacy than you ever thought possible.

The only question is: will you let yourself be caught?
