Standing on The Promises of God Scripture – a Fresh Look
In times of uncertainty and challenge, many find solace and strength from their relationship with God, the Person of Love, Who is the Answer, the Comforter, the Truth, the Light, and the Helper. God has many promises that are revealed in scripture. These serve as beacons of hope for many. They help build and sustain faith, especially as we engage with Holy Spirit so that they come alive for us. In this exploration, we will delve into the significance of “standing on” or leaning into promises of God scriptures, what they entail, and highlight some of the many promises that believers can rely upon. Standing on the promises implies a foundation to place the entirety of the weight of one’s existence and all that one cares about on God, now for eternity. There is inspiration, hope, and joy to sustain us here!
The Power of God’s Promises
The scriptures are filled with God’s promises—declarations of His intentions and assurances to humanity. These promises form an essential part of a believer’s life, providing guidance, comfort, and a reminder of God’s unwavering faithfulness. When one talks about “standing on the promises of God,” it symbolizes an act of faith; it is about believing and trusting in Him as the Word, His love, His character, His power, His faithfulness, and His masterful ability to redeem regardless of circumstances.
Why Trust in God’s Promises?
God’s promises are unbreakable and are as relevant today as they were to the generations before. They are rooted in His character, which is unchanging, faithful, and trustworthy (Heb. 13:8). By trusting in these promises, believers anchor themselves in something far greater than the transient nature of the world. This trust is not passive but an active stance that involves living out one’s faith, which really stems from His faith, with the confidence that God can and will fulfill His word.
Unveiling Promises of God Scriptures
The Bible contains countless promises that pertain to various aspects of life, including peace, provision, guidance, and eternal life. Here, we highlight some of the promises that have stood the test of time, continuing to inspire and uplift believers across the globe.
Pertinent Promises of God
While it’s not possible to list all the promises of God here, a few are worth noting for their profound impact:
- Provision: Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” This promise reassures believers that their needs will be met. That is what a good Father does – provides lavishly without reservations for His kids. The Apostle Paul asks if, He didn’t spare Himself, what would He withhold from you (Rom. 8:32)?
- Peace: In John 14:27, Jesus promises, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This scripture offers peace that transcends understanding. This is a fruit of relationship and communion with Holy Spirit/Christ/Papa (John 15:4, Gal. 5:22).
- Guidance: Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages believers to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight”. This is a promise of guidance for those who rely on God. Reliance involves trust and trust comes from knowing God is trustworthy. When we connect with God as the Person of Love, He casts out fear, in all its manifestations. We can lean into Him and trust Him more, continuing to yield to His leading. The beautiful thing in this is that God is endlessly patient with us as we grow in abiding in Him and is ever ready to help us.
- Strength and Help: Isaiah 41:10 states, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This is a promise of God’s presence and support in times of weakness. He is our strength when we have none!
- Eternal Life: One of the most cherished promises is found in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. This is the promise of God’s love and pursuit of all humanity; salvation manifests in eternal life experientially as we believe Him. Holy Spirit patiently but relentlessly engages with each child to help us in our darkness and unbelief! Love simply will not abandon any of His kids even when they foolishly deny Him.
How to Stand on God’s Promises
Standing on the promises is an active process that involves several steps:
Knowing the Promises
It begins with knowing what the promises are. Regular reading, study of the scriptures, and communion with Holy Spirit help believers know, understand, and internalize God’s promises so that they come alive as truth that frees and restores. This knowledge is the foundation upon which faith is built. But faith is not ours to work up. Faith is a gift from God to all of His kids, that is awakened, activated, and working through experiencing love: the Person of Love, Who never fails (1 Cor 13:8, Gal. 5:6).
Believing and Claiming the Promises
Once aware of the promises, the next step is to grow to believe them more and more wholeheartedly. This is a supernatural process as we engage with Holy Spirit, Who empowers us. It requires faith (using God’s faith) to apprehend and internalize these promises as truth in one’s life, even when the circumstances seem to indicate otherwise. It is engagement with a Person, Who is all powerful, all present, all knowing, all good, and Who simply adores us, despite our failings. It is easy to believe Someone Who loves you without measure (Gal. 5:6).
Living Out the Promises
Belief leads to action. Living out the promises means making choices and taking steps that align with what God has spoken in the written word and in your heart. It’s about letting the assurance of His promises shape behaviors, decisions, and interactions with others. This causes us to stretch and grow as we answer the question, “Can I trust You here, God?” with a “Yes, I can and will” with ongoing baby steps, especially when we cannot see fully. This is us manifesting our son/daughter-ship. As we lean on and abide in a communal relationship that is eternal, we show ourselves to be the glorious sons and daughters that we truly are!
Experiencing the Fulfillment of God’s Promises
Many can testify to the fulfillment of God’s promises in their lives. These experiences often serve as testimonies that not only strengthen the individual’s faith but also encourage others to trust in God’s word as seen in rightly divided scripture, and especially God AS the Word (John 1:1).
Testimonies of Believers
Throughout history and into the present day, there are countless stories of individuals and communities that have experienced the tangible fulfillment of God’s promises. From miraculous provisions to unexplainable peace during trials, these testimonies are a powerful witness to God’s faithfulness and loving care.
Challenges in Standing on the Promises of God
Despite the assurance that God’s promises offer, believers will encounter challenges that test their faith (John 16:33). We can use that testing to help us grow and mature. James 1:2-4 (NIV) says: “2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
This points to the maturation, development, and unveiling of God’s children as sons and daughters of God, conformed beautifully and gloriously into the image of Christ in our flavor. Unveiling/conforming sons and daughters is the priority of God and our destiny (Rom. 8:29-30, 2 Cor. 3:18, Phil. 3:21). This is us, tested and purified, so we come out gloriously as gold, reflecting the radiance of Christ, with Whom we are one!
Doubt and Fear
Doubt and fear are common challenges that can cause believers to waver in their stance. It is important to acknowledge these feelings and confront them with the truth of what God has said in rightly divided scripture and in what God, as the Word (Jesus) has spoken to you in your heart. We need to let Love heal, soothe, and convince us in our doubts and fears. This is part of our development as champions who overcome, because the Champion, Christ in us, has overcome for and as us (John 16:33, 2 Cor. 4:18).
Waiting for the Fulfillment
Patience is required when waiting for the fulfillment of God’s promises. His timing is perfect, but it often does not align with human expectations of what it should look like. This is why we need to hold specific expectations loosely if we have not clearly received guidance as to what the answers should specifically look like. God often answers in ways we would never imagine and in timing that seems long to us (Eph. 3:20, 2 Peter 3:9). During the waiting period, believers are called to remain steadfast and trust in His timing.
This too is part of our development as mature sons and daughters of God (James 1:4) and God knows we won’t do this perfectly. Hebrews 6:11-12 (NIV) says: “11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” Notice we inherit through faith, which God provides, and patience, which is a fruit of our abiding in Christ. God provides all that we need as we grapple with the challenges that present themselves.
Supporting One Another & Encouraging Others
Believers are not only called to stand on the promises of God for themselves but also to encourage others to do the same. The journey of faith is not meant to be walked alone. Believers are encouraged to support one another, building each other up in faith and standing together on the promises of God.This is why community and sharing testimonies are so life-giving and non-negotiable!
Sharing the Good News
Sharing the good news of God’s promises is part of a believer’s mission. It involves reaching out to those who are struggling and pointing them to the hope found in the scriptures and in encountering and communing with God as a lifestyle.

Let Hebrews 13:5b (AMPC) minister to you: “…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor ]give you up nor leave you without support. What did Jesus say about promises?
Jesus emphasized the importance of keeping promises in the Bible. In Matthew 5:33-37, Jesus talks about the seriousness of making oaths and promises, advising people to let their ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and their ‘no’ be ‘no’. This highlights the significance of honesty and integrity in one’s words and actions. And Who is more faithful than God, Himself, Who has given us His eternal “yes” in the Person of Christ!?!
What are the promises of God for healing?
The promises of God for healing are numerous and are found throughout the Bible. One of the most well-known promises is found in Psalm 103:2-3, which says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.” This verse emphasizes the idea that God as Healer, Who is capable of not only forgiving sins but also healing physical ailments.
Additionally, in James 5:14-15, it is stated that if anyone is sick, they should call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person. These promises serve as a source of hope and assurance for those who are in need of healing, reminding them that God is a loving and compassionate God Who cares for every aspect of their well-being.
What is the most important promise in the Bible?
Perhaps the most important promise in the Bible can be found in John 3:16, where it says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This promise of eternal life experienced through belief in Jesus Christ is considered by many to be the cornerstone of Christian faith and the ultimate act of love from God towards humanity. This promise offers hope, redemption, and experiential salvation to all who choose to accept it, regardless of their past sins or mistakes. God as Love is relentless at pursuing ALL: healing broken minds, wills, emotions to be able to experience salvation! It is a reminder of God’s boundless love and grace towards his creation, and the hope for a future free from the burdens of sin and death.
What promises did God make to Abraham, the father of faith?
Abraham, the father of faith, was promised by God that he would become the father of a great nation, with descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. God assured him that his name would be made great, and that all nations would be blessed through him. Additionally, God promised Abraham a land for his descendants to inherit, a land flowing with milk and honey. These promises were made in a covenant between God and Abraham, establishing a sacred and everlasting bond between them. Through these promises, Abraham’s faith and obedience were tested and ultimately rewarded by God’s unwavering fulfillment of his word.
The New Covenant was established between Father God and Christ, so that it will never be broken by human frailty as the previous covenants were. We human beings benefit from the covenant promises because we are in Christ through God’s choice and actions not ours, so we can’t mess it up! This is why the New Covenant is called a better covenant with better promises than the Old Covenant/previous covenants (Heb. 8:6). Hallelujah!
Where does it say in the Bible to remind God of his word?
In Isaiah 43:26, it is mentioned, “Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right.” This verse implies the idea of reminding God of His promises or His word, encouraging believers to bring their petitions before Him and to hold onto His word in faith. Keep in mind, God NEVER forgets His promises, so this “reminding of His word” is to keep it in front of US. We never have to remind a forgetful or reluctant God. We never need to convince God to be good; all goodness stems from His Person. We are the ones who need help with our forgetfulness and unbelief, as well as manifesting goodness!
Conclusion: The Firm Foundation
God, Who has given us many promises, is the firm foundation for believers to stand upon. Those promises are not just ancient words that no longer are pertinent, but living truths that offer hope, guidance, and assurance in every situation. By standing on and leaning into these promises, believers can navigate life’s challenges with confidence, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His word. After all He IS the Word, through Whom and for Whom all things, including us, came into being (Heb. 2:9).
