True Confessions

True Confessions

I have this thing and it has been developing for quite a while. It started with Christmas, spread to Easter, and then Thanksgiving, and then exploded pretty much throughout the calendar year. I love to decorate my house with the change of the seasons: seasonal garlands, votives, lots of lighted mercury glass and candles…The house has been nick-knacked and patty-wacked. The dog has gotten his bones. A guilty pleasure – at times, especially when my family looks askance at me dragging out another box.

I feel so misunderstood…but not really. I have taken this up with God and I have been surprised to find out that He is really psyched. You see, He really gets me, so what I am excited about He is excited about. God actually delights in us!

Just ask Him – He is CRAZY about the things you are nuts about (unless they are harming you or someone else). I love that about God! He is interested in what you are interested in, because He is fascinated with YOU!

If you are into cars, He is into cars.

If you are into sports, He is pumped about sports.

If you are into technology – He’ll be that technology geek right with you!

If you are into makeup – He’ll let you know He loves that perfect shade of lipstick!

He really gets you and He is psyched about you!

The other thing I found out about Him is that He really LOVES to celebrate and party. Now honestly I am not a party animal, but I love to celebrate.

Decorating my home is one way I celebrate – beauty, family, the change of the seasons, inspiration…Life is all around and it is so much greater than death!

I found my need to do this really blossomed after the untimely death of my mother. It was such a painful time, I really felt a huge need for light and beauty in the face of darkness and ugly. God ministered to me through all my home decor and He still does.

But what really ministered to me was His unwavering delight in me. And He delights in you! That’s why He is on a mission to save everyone and redeem everything. He cannot deny Himself us!

He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. Psalm 18:19 (NIV)

So let Him delight in you and make sure your delights are found in Him first. And then, by all means….enjoy!

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

– 1 Timothy 6:17 (NKJV)
